Mercyhurst defeated CHMA rival, Slippery Rock University this past weekend by a score of 8-1. Mercyhurst peppered the Slippery Rock goalie with 20 shots in the first period of play, but were only able to get 1 goal past the SRU goaltender. The teams would enter the first intermission tied at 1-1.
The Lakers would open the game upĀ in the second period scoring 5 goals. The Lakers continued to produce on the special team side of play, scoring 2 power play goals and adding 2 short-handed goals as well. Greg Marsch and Emilio Mayagoitia had multiple goal games. Sean DeVarennes recorded his first collegiate goal off a deflection from a Kevin Valasek point shot. Bryan Danczak recorded the win, stopping 19-20 SRU shots.
